National Care Group Colleague Fast-Track Success from Newcomer to Influential Support Worker

Leading adult social care provider National Care Group is celebrating the progression and personal growth of a colleague who joined with no prior social care experience.

Dean Davies is a support worker at Endurance Care Worcestershire, part of National Care Group. Less than a year after onboarding, his confidence flourished and he felt empowered to take on more responsibilities, resulting in a promotion to a senior role.

National Care Group’s commitment to fostering career progression and support received from colleagues enabled Dean to develop the relevant skills and self-belief to succeed in his new career in adult social care.

Kelly Smith is the registered manager at National Care Group’s Endurance Care Worcestershire. She says:

“During his interview, I knew Dean would do well due to how passionately he spoke about personal situations and managing them. I told him there and then that I would give him an opportunity within our team.

“From the get-go, he was eager to get involved in the complex care needs and routines of the people we support, use his initiative to develop relationships, and empower them to achieve their full potential. His passion for making a difference shone through immediately.“

When Dean joined National Care Group, he had been out of work for many years due to his commitments and devotion as a single dad to his children with complex needs. Despite being initially very nervous about taking this career leap, he immediately made a positive impact on the people he supports and his colleagues.

He completed his Care Certificate with flying colours, and with his knowledge from personal experiences and passion for the role he soon began acting as a shift leader.

Dean also took the lead in arranging engaging activities for the people supported by National Care Group and devised ideas to increase their access to the community and develop independent living skills.

After just a few months in his role, Dean was presented with an ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ by National Care Group. The organisation’s awards recognise colleagues who go above and beyond their roles to make amazing things happen for supported people or their fellow team members.

Karen Lewis, Chief Operations Officer, National Care Group, said:

“We couldn’t be prouder of Dean. He is new to the sector and has taken everything in his stride. He always strives to support people in a way that promotes independence, with positivity that shines through in everything he does. We can’t wait to follow his progression.

“Dean is a shining example that you don’t need qualifications or experience to join the sector and achieve goals. National Care Group’s commitment to fostering career progression ensures everyone feels valued and part of a richer community that not only builds personal careers, but also enriches the lives of those we support so deeply.”
